GOLAGHAT: The activists of All Assam Tea Tribe Students' Association (AATTSA), Furkating sub-committee, along with tea garden labourers, staged protest on Monday morning in front of the garden office of Chipahibari Tea Estate in Golaghat demanding Rs 351 daily wage for tea garden workers and 20 per cent bonus ahead of Durga Puja.

The general secretary of AATTSA Golaghat unit, Anuj Kurmi said that the AATTSA had been staging various protest programmes for fulfillment of long-pending demands. The increase of daily wage of garden labourers upto Rs 351 is a long-pending issue of AATTSA. But the authority concerned did not pay interest to the issue, he said. The Assam Government in 2017 declared to increase the daily wage upto Rs. 351 for tea garden workers from the year 2018. But till date this has not been implemented, he lamented.

Besides, the workers of tea gardens have to live in a pathetic atmosphere in the gardens. They are deprived of proper medical treatment, pure drinking water, electrification in their huts and proper road connectivity. The tea garden authorities do not take any proper initiative to resolve the problems of the workers and the government also does not look into the problems of tea garden labourers, he added.

The AATTSA demanded the Government of Assam to increase the daily wage of tea garden labourers upto Rs. 351and to provide them 20 per cent bonus before Durga Puja.
