DHEKIAJULI: Distressed with Clause 6 of the Assam Accord, Akhil Bharatiya Gorkha League (ABGL) Assam unit will field its own candidates in the Gorkha-dominated areas of Assam in the forthcoming assembly election.

ABGL central committee president M Prasad Acharya and Assam State Gorkha League general secretary Lal Bahadur Chubba expressed strong objection against Clause 6 of the Assam Accord. The top leaders of the organization in a press statement said that the Gorkha community living in Assam for years had been neglected by all the elected governments voted to power by the Gorkhas. They alleged that the Gorkha people living in different parts of Assam had been deprived of proper education, economic development and social uplift. The political parties only use the Gorkhas as vote bank during elections. All the political parties are silent on the problems faced by the Gorkha community, they lamented.

Both the leaders said that they were actively working in the Gorkha-dominated areas of different parts of India to form a political party of the Gorkha people so that they could raise their issues in the right platform.
