TANGLA: Justice still remains a mirage for the family of Khairul Haque, a Bodoland People's Front (BPF) worker who was assassinated by an unidentified gunman at No. 2 Garuajhar in Udalguri district on the fateful evening of February 21. The All BTC Minorities Students' Union (ABMSU) has sought an impartial high-level investigation into the killing of Khairul Haque. A delegation of the student body comprising ABMSU general secretary Taison Hussain and financial secretary Jeherul Islam visited the bereaved family members of Haque at their residence on Sunday.

Talking to media persons, ABMSU general secretary Taison Hussain alleged that due to lack of proper investigation, police had not been able to solve the case and apprehend the culprits. Hussain termed it as 'unfortunate' that despite police and administration assuring of solving the case in a day or two, they had not been able to crack the case even after more than three months.

Hussain alleged that the government machinery had miserably failed to secure the life and property of the citizens of the Bodo belt. He also alleged that after the third Bodo pact was signed on January 27 between the State, Centre and Bodo stakeholders, only a sizeable number of illegal arms were deposited, which has raised doubts in the minds of common people about the presence of such weapons in the Bodo belt.

Hussain also alleged that though the BPF government had promised ex-gratia compensation and government job to the kin of victims, the promises were never fulfilled.

"We have lent all possible cooperation to the Paneri police investigating the case but the police have not made any breakthrough in the case, let alone arrest the culprits," rued the brother of the victim. Soon after the incident, BPF president Hagrama Mohilary also said that there was a political conspiracy behind the killing of Haque.
