KOKRAJHAR: A delegation of the All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) under the leadership of Dipen Boro, president of the union, along with eight leaders, met the Vice-Chancellor of Bodoland University on Friday to discuss various issues.
Talking to mediapersons, Dipen Boro, president of the ABSU, said that the delegation of ABSU called on Prof. Laishram Laddu Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Bodoland University, in his office to know more about the issues and difficulties faced by the university in smooth functioning and progress. In this regard, the VC mentioned many pertinent issues that needed to be addressed by the State Government like new admission, syllabus, infrastructure, creating new posts for teaching and non-teaching staff, regularization of III/IV grade posts, annual funding to the university, introduction of new departments i. e. Bengali, Hindi, Nepali MIL and starting of professional courses.
Boro demanded the State Government to look into these problems. In this regard, the ABSU will meet the Chief Minister and State Education Minister in the days to come, he added. He thanked the Vice-Chancellor and the whole university staff for making it possible to achieve 12B status.
"ABSU will work together with the university authority for the interest of building human resource and student fraternity of the region," said Boro and added that among the key issues faced by the university since some years was the fund flow from the State. There are pending proposals made by the university for more departments such as like Forensic Science, other languages departments and Philosophy, he said. On the other hand, the ABSU president said the infrastructure also needed to be upgraded. There are many contractual staff and these posts are yet to be sanctioned by the State as regular posts. Apart from all these issues, the university is planning to introduce short-term skill innovative programmes to enable employability for local youths, he added.
