LAKHIMPUR: “Education and culture can never tend to go in two separate directions. A strong qualitative education system will strengthen the community life only when a comprehensive academic consciousness can be shaped in the society by elevating and integrating the educational and cultural trends,” stated Dr. Jogen Chandra Kalita, the former director of Human Resource Development department of the Gauhati University in Jonai on Thursday. He made this statement while taking part as one of the resource persons of the symposium on a topic— “Qualitative education system is the main base for moulding a strong community” organized as a part of the third day programmes of the AASU general meet held at Taburam Taid Samanway Kshetra with a four-day long programme. It was chaired by Dr. Budhindra Baruah, retired principal of Dhemaji College.

Throwing light on various aspects of an education system, Dr Kalita asserted that the base of the qualitative education must be strengthened at first in order to shape a community with strength and skills. “In this regard the responsibility and co-operation from all involved with education, mainly the government concerned, are the initial requirements. A learner must know him well before he pursues knowledge. The students should be equally responsible in order to uplift the society with qualitative education which is the age-old heritage of India”, he added. In connection, he went on saying that the students should not be pressurized with regard to the pursuance of their education and the teachers should pay more attention to ensure it.

On the other hand, Director of the Center for Inclusive Development, Tezpur Central University, Rajeev Kumar Doley, taking part as another resource person in the programme, said that the education, through which a student can mould himself to be skillful, capable and deserving is qualitative education. The base of education in the real sense will be strong only when the education system can be pushed forward by paying equal importance over qualification and education simultaneously. Another resource person of the symposium, the Director of the College Development Council of the Dibrugarh University Dr. Rupam Saikia, cited the moves of reformation adapted by Mahatma Gandhi, challenging the colonial rule of the British, as a base of qualitative education. The unity among the contexts of thoughts and actions keeping the true value of education is a vital force to build a strong society

In addition to this symposium on the crucial subject matter, a series of academic competitions were organized on the day with a view to enhancing the intellectual and creative talent of the students. As part of such events, a drawing competition was organized among the students studying from IV to VIII standard.
