Accused in rape and murder held at Manas Salpara, Lakhipur

Goalpara: The Goalpara district police on Saturday arrested the prime accused in the rape and murder of a school girl whose body was found on Friday morning at the Manas Salpara under Lakhipur police station. A special investigating team under the supervision of DSP Rupjyoti Kalita arrested the accused Zakirul Islam of Kharbhuj village near Lakhipur town. "The accused has confessed of being involved in the case and luring the victim from a religious meeting to a paddy field," said Rupjyoti Kalita. "We have taken the accused under remand and further investigation is on," he added. A case was recorded in Lakhipur PS (80/20) post incident under Sections 363/376(2)(i)/302 of Indian Penal Code.
