Acid attack on girl, FIR lodged in Barpeta district

BARPETA: An acid attack took place here at Garemari under Sarthebari Police Station in the Barpeta district on Sunday night. According to report, a youth named Meher Ali of Kathalbhuri village threw acid on a Class IX student of Gadeshilapam under Sarthebari police station because she had allegedly refused his proposal. After watching a cultural programme at night at Majdiya HS playground when the girl was returning home, the accused Meher Ali threw acid on her in the Garemari area. She was immediately admitted at Chenga PHC but when her condition deteriorated, she was admitted at the Fakharuddin Ali Ahmed Medical College and Hospital, Barpeta. Mridul Bora, I/ C, Majdiya Outpost, caught the accused. The family members of the girl have lodged an FIR and a case has been registered against him.
