ACKHSA seeks review of online examination guidelines

SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT

SILCHAR: All Cachar Karimgan Hailakandi Students'Association (ACKHSA), while appreciating the decision of Assam University to conduct TDC final Non Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) examinations from September 29 in blended mode (Online and Offline), giving students the option to choose their own method, has in a memorandum to the Vice Chancellor of Assam University sought review and addition of certain guidelines issued particularly in respect of online examinations. Students have been provided 20 minutes extra after the examinations for scanning and uploading the answer scripts through Google class room. ACKHSA has demanded an extended time of 60 minutes after the completion of examinations in order to make up for disconnection or any technical problem, if any.

The guidelines do not allow revaluation of examined answer scripts, but gives chance for betterment for students. This has disappointed the examinees because in the event of any under marking or unsatisfactory evaluation, students will have no place to redress their grievances. ACKHSA wants revaluation for both the modes of examinations. Google meet has provision of 60 minute duration whereas the examinations each session will be of 2 hours. In case of disruption, it is likely to upset the entire schedule of examinations which the University has to think over seriously.

As per UGC Standard Operating System (SOP) of July 8, 2020, a student who is unable to appear in examinations whatever may be the reason; he or she may be given the opportunity to appear in special examinations. Moreover, there are a good number of students without multiple devices who cannot be present at Google meet, view the question paper or even note down the whole question paper within the time frame given. Considering these points, ACKHSA demands of the Vice Chancellor to have their redressal by reviewing the notifications in the larger interest of the student community. The memorandum was signed by Rupam Nandi Purkayastha, Advisor, and four other members of the Students' Association.
