BAKSA: Under the patronage of Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS), Nagrijuli Primary Committee of ACMS and Nagrijuli Primary Committee of Assam Tea Tribes Students' Association (ATTSA) on Wednesday staged a two-hour demonstration at Nagrijuli Tea Estate under Tamulpur subdivision in the district of Baksa demanding Scheduled Tribe status, land pattas to the tea garden community and to increase the daily wages upto Rs 351.

The activists of ACMS, ATTSA and tea garden labourers gathered at the premises of the office of the Nagrijuli Tea Estate and staged the protest. The activists of the organizations and tea garden labourers displayed placards, banners and posters and raised slogans in support of their demands.

Ajay Karmalee, the central executive member of ATTSA, said, "Before the last assembly election, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) promised to fulfil our demands, we trusted the BJP and cast our votes in favour of BJP and helped to form the government. But after coming to power, the BJP-led government cheated our community. By increasing the daily wage by Rs 50, the BJP-led government has offered nothing but a lollipop. Now the time of lollipops is over. If the BJP-led government does not fulfill our demands, we will give a proper reply in the forthcoming assembly election.
