TINSUKIA: Along with the rest of the tea gardens of Assam, the sub-staff of tea gardens under the aegis of ACMS Panitola branch observed 1 hour protest for enhancement of salary and travelling allowance and threatened to intensify their agitation in future.

Raju Sahu, former Chabua MLA and secretary ACMS Panitola branch told the media persons that the ACMS had several rounds of bipartite discussions on the issue with Consultative Committee of Plantation Association (CCPA) but the latter did not give any importance to their grievances. The last meeting held on August 26 also failed to resolve the issue, said Sahu adding that the previous bipartite agreement had expired in the month of January 2022. He also alleged that during COVID lockdown many gardens had deducted 30 per cent of wages from sub-staffs' salary which the garden management is yet to pay. Bonus on the arrear wages was also not paid. The ACMS will hold a 3-hour protest on September 1 and appealed to sub-staff of all tea gardens in Assam to observe the protest in their respective gardens to make its agitation a success.
