GUWAHATI: BJP's star campaigner and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath while addressing a poll campaign here in Assam, has held Congress responsible for the illegal influx in the Northeastern region.

He stated that Congress ignored the people's welfare and development of the region in its quest for power. Yogi also slammed the Congress for joining hands with Badaruddin Ajmal led All India United Democratic Front AIUDF.

He further added that the region longed for development but never attained the same due to the Congress party as it was not the party's agenda.

Heaping praises on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the UP CM said that Modi implemented the Act East Policy for the development of the region.

Listing out the schemes provided by the Modi government, the CM said the BJP government undertook various welfare schemes for all citizens including the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, free LPG to women under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, LED bulbs, electricity, drinking water to each household etc.

Earlier, in the day the CM visited Kamakhya temple and offered his prayers before leaving for his election rallies. The Chief Minister participated in three public rallies to campaign for BJP candidates Ramskrishna Ghosh in Hojai, Madhuram Deka in Kalaigaon, and Bhabesh Kalita in the Rangiya constituency. These constituencies will go to the polls on April 1.

In a bid to boost the electioneering in Assam ahead of the Assembly elections, the BJP has listed some of the top-notch politicians from the party. Some of the politicians who have already campaigned in the state include PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Minister of Textile Smriti Irani, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar.

It needs to be mentioned here, that PM Modi will visit the state tomorrow, he will attend a rally in Karimganj.
