Adivasi organizations demand ST status

BISWANATH CHARIALI: "A deep conspiracy has been hatched to convert the Adivasi people into tea tribe community, but the Adivasi people will work together to thwart this conspiracy", this was announced by a good number of Adivasi organisations on Thursday in a press conference held at Biswanath Chariali. The leaders of the organization urged the government to stop the conspiracy to convert all the Adivasi people into tea tribe communities. The tribal icon Lakshmi Orang, who was present at the press meet, announced that the struggle would continue till all the tribals were given the status of Scheduled Tribes. They also demanded the hanging of the man involved in the rape and murder case of a 22-year-old girl from Baganpara in Baksa district. Representatives from various Adivasi organisations were present at the press conference.
