Uriamghat: The administration has issued a seven-day eviction notice to individuals allegedly settling illegally along the Uriamghat border. In a swift response, 12 families attempting to settle in Koroi village under the Naojaan Police Station have been detained for verification.

According to sources, the families were trying to establish residence in the sensitive border region Naojaan’s Tamulpur area, despite prior warnings from local authorities and political leaders.The action follows a timely alert from local villagers, who had earlier been cautioned by MLA Biswajit Phukan about possible illegal encroachments in the region.

Upon noticing suspicious activities, villagers promptly informed the police, leading to the arrests.The Dhansiri Mukua Chutia Students’ Union has confirmed that they have  reported the matter to the District Commissioner, urging prompt administrative action to prevent unauthorized settlement and protect the area’s security.

Officials have stated that verification of the detained families is ongoing, and further action will be taken based on investigation reports. Security has been tightened in the region to prevent any further illegal activities.
