BISWANATH CHARIALI: An adult Bengal Tiger was found dead by a regular patrolling team on August 8, near the east side of Bir Lachit Anti-Poaching Camp under the Central Range, Biswanath Ghat, within the Biswanath wildlife division of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNP&TR). The tiger was identified through its unique stripe pattern, as per records maintained by the Tiger Cell of the Park Directorate at Bokakhat.
A post-mortem examination conducted by a qualified veterinary team revealed that the cause of death was infighting, as evidenced by prominent claw mark injuries and internal haemorrhage. Samples were collected for forensic analysis and all procedures were undertaken strictly in accordance with the Standard Operating Protocol (SOP) of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) under the supervision of a committee constituted by the Director, Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve. Biswanath Wildlife Division supports a tiger population of 27 individuals, contributing significantly to the overall growth of tiger numbers in Kaziranga, now ranked as having the third highest tiger population in the world, as per the latest census
