GUWAHATI: The launch of Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure summit 2025, an initiative by the Government of Assam, marks an important step in the state’s plan to grow its economy and become a major industrial hub. With a focus on industrial growth, job creation, and improving the lives of its people, this policy aims to unlock Assam’s full potential and create thousands of jobs. Advantage Assam 2.0 is a government programme that focuses on developing key industries in Assam. The goal is to make the state a leader in sectors like agro-processing, textiles, petrochemicals, bamboo products, renewable energy, and IT. The policy also includes plans to set up a Defence Corridor to support manufacturing for the defence sector. After a gap of 7 year the GOA is again come with the second addition of industrialisation movement in the state.

 With the improvement on infrastructure development ranging from roads, railways, and airports to logistics hubs and digital connectivity—makes it easier for industries to set up and expand. The development of multi-modal transport systems and logistics corridors, along with improvements in power supply, will enhance Assam’s appeal as a manufacturing and trade hub, especially for regional and international markets. The government recognizes that efficient infrastructure is the backbone of industrial growth, enabling businesses to operate more effectively and competitively. The policy lays out a detailed roadmap for infrastructure development across key sectors, from transportation and logistics to energy and digital connectivity.

Sector-specific industrial parks and clusters will attract investment and foster industry collaboration. The government aims to develop industrial parks across sectors such as agro-processing, textiles, renewable energy, biotechnology, and electronics manufacturing, which will further attract investors and create an industrial ecosystem in Assam. With existing more than 65 industrial parks including sectorial parks, 160 kms of Industrial zone and many proposed industrial parks, Multi model logistic parks, Assam under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is growing rapidly.

Governments prioritizing in reducing bureaucratic hurdles and improving the ease of doing business in the state is showing its result. All the approvals & registrations are now paperless. By offering a single-window clearance system, faster approvals, and a streamlined regulatory framework, the policy aims to attract investments and ensure the ease of operation for businesses.

One of the most impactful aspects of this summit is its focus on creating jobs. Industrialization is expected to be a major driver of employment in Assam, with both direct and indirect job opportunities across various sectors. With CMAAA initiative an entrepreneurship culture has been developed in Assam and wave of start ups with innovation is already created. Industrial units, particularly in manufacturing, agro-processing, IT, and renewable energy sectors, will require skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled workers. The policy’s emphasis on skill development ensures that the local workforce is well-prepared for these roles.

With a focus on aligning education and training with industry needs, the state government is implementing several skill development programs. Skill University, Initiatives of Assam Skill Development Mission, More than 28 ITI and a numbers of Private institutes are ready to produce more and more skilled work force. Recent initiatives of Assam Government put forward its vision in developing skilled workforce. These programs will enhance the employability of youth, bridging the gap between academic knowledge and industrial requirements. 30+ Management institutes &colleges, Engineering colleges, medical colleges, universities and technical institutes are ready to boost the high management skills. Though technical and skilled, managerial workforce is ready but more vision and guided approach is required in creating commercial workforce also.

The focus on inclusivity and skill development will ensure that Assam’s growth is both equitable and sustainable, offering employment and entrepreneurship opportunities to a wide cross-section of society. The summit will feature Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Japan and Singapore. Japan plans to recruit approximately 50,000 skilled workers from Assam, while Singapore seeks to hire nurses from the state. This initiative is expected to provide substantial employment opportunities for Assam’s youth. Assam Skill Development Mission, Polytechnic Colleges, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) Centers, Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), ASEEM (Aatmanirbhar Skilled Employee Employer Mapping), Bamboo and Handloom Training Centers, Private Skill Development Institutions, Sector-Specific Centers (Healthcare, IT, and Renewable Energy), PMKVY (Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana), Assam Rural Infrastructure and Agricultural Development Society (ARIAD) These training centres & missions aim to equip individuals with the necessary skills to meet the demands of various industries, both locally and internationally.

As the state embarks on this journey of industrialization, Advantage Assam 2.0- investment and infrastructure summit represents a beacon of hope for the future—one where Assam emerges as a leading industrial powerhouse while improving the quality of life for its people. This policy not only redefines Assam’s economic trajectory but also reaffirms the state’s commitment to a brighter, more prosperous future. We must join our hand with the dream of our visionary leader and chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to make Assam India‘s next the growth engine, stated a press release.
