SIVASAGAR: Rich tributes were paid to the noted actor, social worker and businessman of Sivasagar town, Arup Narayan Sarma, who died on February 29, on the occasion of his adya shradha on Tuesday. Sarma acted as a leading character at Abdul Mazid’s Bon Hongsha. He was involved with many social and cultural organizations.

In a meeting held at his residence at Phukan Nagar near Water Tank, a commemorative book Rupkaror Prasthan, edited by Jayanta Baruah, was released by noted educationist and social worker Dipali Chaliha. Releasing the book, Chaliha opined that Arup Narayan Sarma was a man of virtue with a kind heart. He was a man of good words. “With Arup Narayan Sarma’s sudden demise, Sivasagar Natya Samaj and Sivasagar as a whole lost an active cultural worker,” Chaliha added.

The programme was hosted by Saurav Chaliha, a noted social worker and friend of Sarma. Senior journalists Monoj Borthakur, Khalilur Rahman Hazarika, Sanjib Dey, noted physician PP Chetia and AASU leader Pradip Borgohain were among those who attended the programme.
