KALAIGAON: A total of 9 pigs and piglets have died in the outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) since its recurrence from July this year. District Veterinary Officer of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary of Udalguri, Dr Nagen Kalita stated on Monday that 9 pigs died this month due to ASF. So far, 63 pigs have been culled to prevent further spread of ASF, DVO Dr Nagen Kalita said. He added that the farmers who lost pigs due to ASF would be compensated for their losses once the outbreak is declared a disaster.

Hangma Basumatary of Kuhiarkuchi ( Suwanipara), has lost her pigs due to ASF and the veterinary department has culled the pigs to prevent the disease. The highly contagious pig disease has currently affected 16 villages under Khairabari revenue circle. The pigs and piglets were culled at Kuhiarkuchi ( Suwanipara ) on Monday in presence of Dr. Raheshwar Borah, Assistant Director of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary department from Kokrajahr under BTC administration. Even, Dr. Krishnakanta Sarma and Dr Sulabh Sarma also cooperated with the higher officials in this culling programme.
