TINSUKIA, June 20: The Janagostiya Oikya Manch (JOM), a conglomerate organization of six ethnic communities of Assam, announced a series of agitations to protest against the government’s lackadaisical and deceiving attitude towards granting ST status despite assurances on several occasions since 2016. At a press meet held on Wednesday in presence of presidents of four organizations, namely Moran, Mottock, ATTSA and Tai Ahom, the convener of the Manch, Arun Jyoti Moran, while condemning the double standards of both the State and Central governments, said that on the issue of ST status they not only misguided the people of Assam but even failed to submit the report on time despite extending time period on various pleas. The JOM will resort to sit-in in Guwahati on June 27 followed by mass assembly at Chalihanagar Tinsukia on July 17 and Chawlkhowa Dibrugarh on July 21. The JOM declared 48-hour Assam bandh on July 23-July 24 followed by mass fasting in Delhi on July 30.
