LAKHIMPUR: The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Alliance clean swept Congress in Thengal Kachari Autonomous Council Election, 2022 in all five constituencies under Lakhimpur district. These constituencies under the district are— No. 16 Bongalmora (East Dikrong ST) constituency, No. 17 Pabho (Laluk ST) constituency, No. 18 Lakhimpur East (Woman ST) constituency, No, 19 Bihpuriya South (ST) constituency and No, 20 Jokaipeluwa-Harmoti (ST) constituency. Notably, a total of 15 contestants were in the fray in the district in the election.

In No. 16 Bongalmora (East Dikrong ST) constituency, Lekhan Borah of BJP defeated independent candidate Botukrishna Borah as per the result declared on Monday. Lekhan Borah bagged 890 out of 1931 valid votes while Botu Krishna Birah secured 596 votes.

On the other hand, Keshav Neog (713) of BJP defeated his nearest independent candidate Thaneswar Saikia (631) in No. 17 Pabho (Laluk ST) constituency. Jyoti Borah Saikia (790) of BJP defeated Tulumoni Sonowal Borah (662) of Congress in No. 18 Lakhimpur East (Woman ST) constituency. BJP candidate-cum-former AGP MLA Kesharam Borah (844) defeated independent candidate Ramakanta Borah (407) in No, 19 Bihpuriya South (ST) constituency. On the other hand, Dhaneswar Hazarika (856) of AGP defeated Apurba Hazarika (540) of Congress in No, 20 Jokaipeluwa-Harmoti (ST) constituency. Notably, the Congress candidates did not come into the contest in three constituencies in the election.
