AHECL Chairman Ponakon Baruah moves OIL CMD to compensate affected people

DIBRUGARH: Chairman of Assam Hydrocarbon and Energy Company Limited (AHECL), Ponakon Baruah visited the OIL blowout affected areas -- Baghjan, Nutun Gaon and nearby places recently and took stock of the situation arising out of OIL's gas disaster which has threatened the surrounding environment, life and property of people since the last one week. Despite OIL and ONGC experts' full efforts, the gas continues to leak.

Baruah, who is also spokesperson of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), after assessing the situation and the suffering of the people in the relief camps, urged upon the OIL CMD Sushil Kumar Mishra for fair allocation of compensation to all distraught people.

If necessary, he said, OIL authority should bring national or international experts without sparing more time for immediate control of the situation and should extend support to the affected people of Baghjan , Kaliapani and Nutun Gaon under Chabua LAC with financial assistance and cattle feed.
