FROM A CORRESPONDENT

BOKAKHAT, March 3: “There are more than 200 AIDS patients in Golaghat district. To control the disease the government has been supplying sufficient medicines free of cost. But some AIDS patients refrain from taking medicines to conceal the disease. Such people harm not only themselves but the society at large,” said Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome activist vanita Saikia who was warmly felicitated at an awareness programme organized by Kamargaon Jourlist Association with the help of the medical staff of Kamargaon Hospital on Monday. “I am alive because I take medicines supplied by the government and I have been working for the betterment of the people,” she added. Dr Ajoy Kotoky delivered a speech on AIDS and appealed to the people to take vanita as role model.
