KOKRAJHAR: The president of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), Assam state, Muktibur Rahman on Tuesday hit out at Prithviraj Narayan DevMech, president of Northeast Heritage Foundation, for airing communal comments against United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) president PromodBoro and warned him to desist from playing communal politics.

Talking to reporters at Kokrajhar Press Club on Tuesday, Rahman said that Prithviraj had been attacking UPPL president PromodBoro with communal comments. He said that Prithviraj was hatching a conspiracy by dividing tribals and non-tribals, which was not a good sign for communal harmony in the region. All the allegations against PromodBoro by DevMech were totally baseless and politically motivated, he said, adding that it was Prithviraj Narayan who lodged a case at Gauhati High Court against the non-tribals, alleging that the non-tribals had illegally occupied over 4.50 lakh bighas of tribal belts and blocks. Now this same person was claiming that over 60 per cent non-tribal people of BTR would be driven out of the council if UPPL came to power, he said, adding that people should not be misguided by such vested agents.

Rahman alleged that Prithviraj and BPF president HagramaMohilary had a secret meeting on November 22 and had hatched a conspiracy to divide the tribals and non- tribals. He said as many as 29 accords had been signed with different groups in the Northeast but most of the accords were yet to be implemented properly.

The president of AIMPLB State committee said that they would extend support to the Promod Boro-led UPPL in the ensuing BTC election. He said he had faith in PromodBoro as he had assured the people of all communities to work together with comprehensive policies and bring a change within five years while taking everybody along. Rahman hoped that the corruption, nepotism and favouritism would come to an end if Boro came to power. He called upon the community people to extend support to UPPL in the forthcoming BTC election for peace, harmony and progress of all communities.
