Guwahati: Badruddin Ajmal, who represents Dhubri constituency in the Lok Sabha and is the Chief of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), was discharged from a Mumbai hospital yesterday as he is doing "absolutely fine."

"By the grace of almighty and the care of doctors and nurses, I have been discharged from hospital today. I am doing absolutely fine now. Gratitude and thanks to the Hospital staff as well as those who prayed for me during this time", Ajmal wrote in a tweet.

This comes amid intense speculation over whether or not the Maulana, who has been staying Mumbai for a while now, is infected with the COVID-19 virus.

"As I have informed earlier, I am not keeping well since last week. There have been media reports about me testing positive for Covid-19. In that regard I want to make it clear that my last Covid-19 swab test report which was done on 4th July came out negative", Ajmal wrote in a tweet on July 11, amid reports of him being infected with the respiratory illness. In another tweet, Ajmal wrote that he was at home, "under expert doctor's supervision" and feeling much better.

A day later, Abdur Rehman Ajmal issued a statement on the MP's twitter handle regarding his health. "Maulana Badruddin Ajmal Sahab was not feeling well due to a mild drop in his oxygen saturation level, on Doctor's recommendation, he has been shifted to Hospital from his residence. We are waiting for his Covid report and will keep you updated on it", he wrote.
