AJP Raises Voice Against Price Hikes, Launches Massive Protest In Guwahati

Guwahati: On Thursday, a protest was launched by the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) on a large scale against the increase in the price of commodities used on a regular basis.

The protest witnessed a large number of participants who were workers and members of the Assam Jatiya Parishad. The protesters started their march from Guwahati Club and reached Raj Bhavan which is located in Kharguli.

The president of the Assam Jatiya Parishad Lurin Jyoti Gogoi led the protest along with prominent members of the party such as Chittaranjan Basumatary and Jagdip Bhuyan. 

The group of protesters were stopped by the police at Guwahati Club but still went ahead with the march and reached Raj Bhavan eventually.

The police tried to control the situation by lathi-charging the protesters and detaining them. Some of the protestors were transported away in buses by the police while others were injured during the lathi-charge. As per reports, Chittaranjan Basumatary and several members of the AJP were also injured after being lathi-charged by the police.

It is to be mentioned that the price of petrol and diesel has been witnessing a continuous surge in the last few weeks all across the country. In Assam, the price of petrol now stands at Rs. 107.63 per litre while the price of diesel has increased to Rs. 99.96 per litre.
