GOLAGHAT, May 17: The activists of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Parishad (AJYP) Golaghat town committee burnt the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 to protest against the BJP government’s decision of amendment of the Citizenship Bill, 2016. They also burnt the effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday in Golaghat town.

The activists raised various slogans against the BJP government for taking an anti-Assam policy. In a press statement, the president and secretary of the organization, Partha Protim Tamuly and Nipon Gogoi respectively, said that the decision of the Narendra Modi-led BJP government to settle Hindu migrants in Assam by amending the citizenship bill, 2016 would never be accepted as it would adversely affect the indigenous people of Assam socially, economically and educationally. They demanded immediate withdrawal of the citizenship amendment bill.
