TINSUKIA: Anup Kumar Das more popularly as AK Das paper agent who was suffering from critical illness, passed away in a private nursing home in Guwahati on Friday. His mortal remains were consigned to flames at Tinsukia on Saturday. Braving all kinds of adverse seasonal weather, Das by his stint hard work ensured the delivery of newspapers in morning hours at the readers' door step. He was 54. A resident of Adarsha Path of Raja Ali Road, Das begun distributing newspapers in early eighties initially in Railway colonies and later opened a paper and magazine store at Tinkunia which became a major outlet of newspapers in entire Tinsukia district. He, as chief agent employed more than 50 hawkers and sub-agents in entire district from Panitola to Sadiya. His demise was widely mourned by various organisations and media houses. He leaves behind his wife, 2 daughters and a son besides his brother Bidhan Das who presently looks after the establishment.
