Guwahati: Assam's activist Akhil Gogoi today urged all the regional political parties, associations, and indigenous organizations in the state to join hands to take down the BJP party in the 2021 polls.

"I have an advice for the people of Assam. If we become divided once again, it will be the end of Assam", Gogoi said in Guwahati, making an appeal. "There is no use in forming 10-15 regional parties. We need one regional party that is united and powerful and stands under a single banner."

Gogoi added that the people of the state have to come together and stand united under the banner of a single flag. "If not, the Hindu-Muslim politics shall continue for 30-50 years, and Assam will be ruined."

The activist, one of the most prominent faces of the anti-CAA agitation, urged like-minded organizations of the state to band together. "I appeal AASU, AJYCP, KMSS, as well as all other regional politics and organizations to come together. If they come together, they can defeat both the BJP-RSS as well as the Congress-AIUDF."

Akhil Gogoi added that each family in the state should be given Rs. 10,000 by the Government to compensate for the losses incurred during the nationwide-lockdown that had been called to arrest the spread of the coronavirus. "Only Rs 830 shall not do, each family has to be handed a sum of Rs. 10,000," he said.

Akhil Gogoi still finds himself imprisoned amid talks of alliances and poll strategies ahead of the 2021 polls. In August last, a National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Guwahati rejected the bail application of Assam activist Akhil Gogoi. Gogoi was arrested for his alleged role in instances of violence during the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act in the state last year.
