AKRSU to intensify agitation for Kamatapur, ST status

From our Correspondent

Bongaigaon, August 17: The All Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union (AKRSU, Biswajit Ray faction) has declared a series of agitation for the coming days.

Biswajit Ray, AKRSU president, said during the press meet held in AKRSU’s central office in Bongaigaon on Monday that the BJP-led Central Government had betrayed the Koch- Rajbongshi people.

“Before parliamentary election, Modi himself announced and assured publicly in a mass meeting in Bongaigaon to solve that the demand of separate Kamatapur state and ST categorization of Koch- Rajbongshi community would be fulfilled. But now, he is not showing any interest to fulfil his promises. Hence, we are compelled to declare this agitation schedule for the coming days. According to this programme, we will put up black flags in all public places and will take out a silent procession in all places. On September 14 we will block rail lines in Bongaigaon and on September 29 we will take out a cycle rally. In October we will stage a protest in New Delhi. We demand that the government should fulfil our demands this year itself. Otherwise, we will be compelled to launch a massive agitation,” Ray said.

He also appealed to all Koch- Rajbongshi people to join in this agitation. “This is the right time to stand together against the government for our legal demands. We appeal to all Koch- Rajbongshi people to join in this agitation. At least one person from every Koch- Rajbongshi family should directly take part in this agitation. Otherwise, they will have to pay fine of Rs 500 to Rs 2 lakh,” he said.
