Akshaya Patra's New Mid Day Meal Kitchen to Provide Lunch to 50,000 Children Daily

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sononwal inaugurated the new Centralized Mid-Day Meal Kitchen of Akshaya Patra Foundation at a function in North Guwahati on Wednesday.

The new centralized kitchen has been built on an expansive 10 bigha of land given by the State government. The funds for the construction of the same is provided by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). The new kitchen is likely to provide lunch to 50 thousand children in Kamrup (Metro) and Kamrup districts. The new facility will replace Akshaya Patra's former kitchen.

CM Sarbananda Sonowal took to Twitter to share photographs from the inauguration.

Speaking on the occasion, CM Sonowal said that over the years Akshaya Patra Foundation has been feeding healthy food to children across the nation.

Praising the foundation's work over the years, CM Sonowal said that Akshaya Patra Foundation has been serving God by serving His most beloved creation, children. CM Sonowal said that satisfaction of children leads to satisfaction of God. Terming the foundation's work as an example of devotion and dedication through work, he encouraged replication of such an initiative in all the districts of Assam.

The chief minister also mentioned that the food is cooked thoroughly in a scientific mode. Commending Akshaya Patra Foundation, he said that the foundation is performing the duties and providing motherly care to the children. He also thanked Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for bringing Akshaya Patra Foundation to Assam.

Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Akshaya Patra Foundation has been in a position to provide nutritious food to the children which would lead to a stronger society.

He also mentioned that this programme will be replicated in Jorhat and Majuli. Further, he thanked Airports Authority of India for its generosity.

Chanchalapathi Dasa, Vice Chairman of Akshaya Patra Foundation gave the welcome address. He said that the foundation would start such programme in Jorhat, Majuli and Tripura as well. He stressed that the foundation has been trying to ensure that no child is left out of the school system because of hunger.
