Dibrugarh: Dibrugarh district committee of the All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam (AASAA) has written to the Deputy Commissioner demanding a thorough investigation into the shocking incident which involved a woman named Rupa Kerketa embracing death by jumping off a building on May 25 after having delivered triplets at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) on May 17.

Citing a probable connection of the death with the sheer negligence of the medical authority concerned, AASAA has alleged that the authority did not allow the patient to leave AMCH immediately despite effectuating a certificate of declaration of discharge against medical advice with her husband Niranta Kerketa after he requested for the patient’s release on account of negligence in her treatment.

The organization has accused that the delay of 82 hours in releasing the patient was caused despite having being aware of her mental condition. The body has also demanded that appropriate action be taken against the doctors who allegedly acted with negligence, other than ensuring that proper attention and treatment was given to the Adivasi patient. Also, a demand for bearing the expenses of the three newborn babies has been made.
