SILCHAR: The All Assam Manipuri Students Union (AAMSU) expressed anguish over the discriminatory attitude of the Government of Assam while conducting various job related examinations and appointment process towards the languagetic minority Manipuri candidates in the name of Manipuri medium background. In this regard, the AAMSU submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam on Friday through the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar.

The AAMSU pointed out that the Manipuries as settled in Assam since 16th Century during the reign of SwargadeoSuhungmung in different districts of Assam. The Manipuries in Assam contributed heart and soul to the march of development in the state with kind favour by the State Government in the every aspect of life. Unfortunately a decision taken in 2019 by the Government of Assam has stripped the Manipuri youths of their right to appointment in jobs causing great concern to one and all.

As per Assam Public Service Commission (amendment) Rule-2019 as published on August 5, 2019, job applicants will now have to qualify in either of the Assamese or Bengali or Bodo languages which has created problems for large number of Manipuri youths having requisite qualifications of civil service but studied in Manipuri medium schools and not studied either of the languages mentioned.

According to a release, the body demanded that the Manipuri language should be included along with Assamese, Bengali and Bodo in all the written examinations conducted by different departments of Government of Assam.

It seeks the inclusion of Manipuri language in the list of qualifying paper along with Assamese, Bengali and Bodo in the main examination of APSC.

Further, it demanded the inclusion of Manipuri literature as one of the optional subjects in the main examination of Combined Competitive Examination of APSC along with other six literatures.

It also urged the CM for the declaration of Manipuri language as one of the Associate official languages of Assam and creation of a permanent policy for the protection and promotion of Manipuri Medium Schools.
