DIBRUGARH: The All Assam Mottock Yuba Chatra Sanmmilan (AAMYCS) has decided to launch indefinite OIL blockade from January 25 in protest against the BJP government's failure to constitute the Mottock Autonomous Council (Amendment) till date even after the BJP announced it on December 29, 2020.

Expressing serious resentment over the issue, the AAMYCS leaders, during a press meet on Wednesday, reiterated their earlier demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to six ethnic communities of the State. They further stated that the struggle for ST status to the six ethnic communities was still in their agenda and they vouched to continue their struggle till they achieved it.

The coalition government of BJP and AGP, prior to the last assembly election, had promised in their election manifesto that they would accelerate work for granting ST status to the six ethnic communities but it remained only in the manifesto, alleged the AAMYCS leaders. No efforts have been made to implement it except an announcement made by the government that they would constitute a Mottock Autonomous (amended) council, which the AAMYCS leaders said, was yet to receive the Governor's approval.

Stating the entire development as unfortunate, the AAMYCS leaders said, "How could BJP president JP Nadda in his address at Silchar claim that the government had already granted ST status to all the six communities?"

Coming down heavily on BJP's calculated political maneuver to deceive the people of the State, AAMYCS cautioned the government that they would not hesitate to intensify their struggle if the ruling BJP failed to gauge the people's sentiments.
