Non-Provincialized Teachers Initiate Protest In Dispur

GUWAHATI: The All Assam Non-Provincialized Teachers and Employees Association undertook a protest on Saturday, and demanded that all non-provincialized teaching staff positions be made provincial.

Many teachers and staff members gathered at Dispur's Last Gate to demand the fulfilment of their rights.

They continued to raise slogans at the state government and the minister of education.

Speaking to the media, a protester alleged that the state government had just made assurances and had not yet taken any actual action.

"We are being deceived by the government; if our demands are not granted, we will continue with our demonstration and block roads and trains," stated another protestor.

On March 1, the All Assam Primary TET Teachers' Association sent a message to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, expressing their displeasure with the state's decision to only regularise TET teachers at schools where students received an A+ on the Gunotsav.

According to a state cabinet resolution made on January 23, the jobs of temporary and state pool teachers employed in lower and upper elementary schools that received two consecutive "A+" grades in Gunotsav in 2022 and 2023 would be regularized.

The teacher's association also asserted in its memorandum that the regularisation of TET instructors is a cause of the tremendous sadness experienced by the contractual and state-level teachers in the Dhubri region.

The president of the organisation, Musharraf Hussain, declared during a news conference that the current decision by the Assam government will not be recognised by any contractual TET-passed teachers in Assam.

A protester also added that instructors had been hired to vacant positions in the education department under the guise of regularisation, but that the decision on the date of regularisation had not yet been made because no teachers employed in the Dhubri district had accepted the date of joining.

They added later that Gunotsav is a mechanism for evaluating a school as a whole and that the results do not solely depend on the performance of one or two contractual teachers.
