BONGAIGAON: In tune with other district committees of Assam, the Bongaigaon district committee of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) staged a demonstration programme at Bongaigaon on Friday.

They protested against the state government’s directive to provide citizenship to the illegal Hindu Bangladeshi migrants. Talking to the press, Nilotpal Chakraborty from the Central Committee of AASU said that the government was planning to give citizenship to the Hindu Bangladeshis in the interest of vote bank. “That’s why the cases pending on foreigners’ tribunal have been directed to be abolished. We protest against this. For us all Bangladeshis are illegal, irrespective of caste, community, and religion. We demand the government to stop this activity otherwise they will face a massive demonstration in the future,” he stated.

Hundreds of AASU cadres gathered in this programme and shouted slogans against the government’s policy.
