LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district unit of All Assam Unemployed Association (AAUA) took to the streets on Wednesday to protest against the sky-rocketing prices of essential commodities.

With the eruption of pent-up resentment, the activists of the organization, led by working president Kukil Ranjan Hazarika and general secretary Khirod Chetia, burnt the effigy of State Food and Civil Supplies Minister Phani Bhusan Choudhury in North Lakhimpur town alleging his extreme failure to control the price hike. The protesters shouted various slogans demanding check in the growing price hike and flaying the alleged unmoved attitude on the part of the minister concerned with regard to initiating any move to control the issue.

While taking part in the protest programme, general secretary Khirod Chetia became vocal against the State Government regarding the issue. He demanded Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to remove Phani Bhusan Choudhury from the ministry because of his alleged failure to control price hike.
