KOKRAJHAR: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) has expressed grave concern over the alleged interference of functioning of Vice-Chancellor by a section of officers of the Bodoland University (BU) and said that there should not be any intervention in administrative lacunas of university. The assistant general secretary of the All Bodo Students Union-Kwrwmdao Wary and education secretary Kastom Basumatary in their statement on Friday said they came to know from the section of people that there were attempts to bring down the prestige and reputation of the Bodoland University (BU). Some media reports smell hatching conspiracy against the Vice Chancellor of the university.

“This is not the first time that such sinister design to malign the VC of the Bodoland University has been noticed. In the recent past there have been some mishappenings which have narrowed down the prestige of the only university of Bodoland region and lower Assam”, he said adding that the question prevailed if this University would be free from such unwanted happenings from within the section of officers, showing their unwillingness to administer the University in a transparent manner.

Wary said the union believed that the right leadership for the University must be allowed to function free from any interference as the University is in its developing stage. “The BU is at the transitional period awaiting for the 12B status under the UGC after the recent inspection. Thus, for the smooth administration to acquire all the required positions at the University regarding appointments of Professors and other officers as required must be given transparent way”, he added.

The assistant general secretary of the ABSU said from the earlier enquiry team visits, there had been some serious allegations against some officers of the BU, which sets bad precedent in the administration of the University. Further, the false and irrelevant allegations against the Vice Chancellor of the University from within are very unfortunate, that has already set bad example from the earlier incidents of BU, he said. He questioned as to why only the highest had been targeted in the functioning of the administration of the statutory body, where the VC of the University has some discretionary power to intervene the administrative lacunas.

The ABSU appeals that every officer of the BU should maintain the healthy functioning of the University for the better future of Bodoland University, which will benefit all the students and communities of lower Assam region and bring development of the University and turn it into a world class University.
