All BTC Brahmin Youth Council (ABBYC) flays 'attack' on priest in Mukalmua

TANGLA: The All BTC Brahmin Youth Council (ABBYC) has strongly condemned the incident of moral policing against a priest at Bortola village under Mukalmua Police Station in Nalbari on May 7 and has demanded impartial investigation into the matter and punishment of the guilty. President of the body, Tirtha Ranjan Goswami alleged that the victim Hiranya Sarma was attacked by a group of hooligans comprising of 10-15 local youths who charged him of practising black magic.

"The victim sustained injuries as he was beaten with bamboo sticks and even his hands were tied with rope but even after several days of the incident and lodging of FIR by the victim, police have failed to nab the perpetrators of the crime and proceed with the investigation," said Goswami. "The incident is a blatant violation of law and order amid the pandemic and nationwide lockdown and it was only the timely intervention of police that saved the youth," he added. Goswami further exhorted the police and administration for free and fair investigation into the matter and punishment of the guilty as per provisions of the law.
