A Correspondent

Dibrugarh: The All Dibrugarh Students’ Union has taken exception to a project proposed under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation to come up in the north-eastern direction of the Chowkidinghee Field.

After having a discussion with various social, cultural and sports associations, as well as conscious citizens, the body has submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha, citing its objection and demanding certain steps to be taken. In the memorandum signed by the body’s president Khagen Dutta and general secretary, Rupjyoti Borthakur, it was stated that the proposed project, which involved the construction of a kids’ play area, open gym and garden with jogging park, would not only lead to a shrinking of the dimensions of the field, but would also turn things unfavourable for the ones using the field for walking and jogging purposes. It was suggested that the project be shifted to some other location of the town.

Some of the demands made by the students’ union included, terminating the proposed project and instead bettering the high altitude illumination facility of the playground; constructing scientific drains on all four sides surrounding the field; and upgrading the existing jogging track to the level of a synthetic track.
