DOOMDOOMA: About 500 fourth-grade employees, working in non-provincialized educational institutions all over Assam were deprived of their appointments for jobs in the Niyog Mela organized by the State Government on September 23. The employees deprived were from 2017 such schools who were reportedly working in their respective institutions since inception.

Around 16 teachers from Dibrugarh District and 5, from Tinsukia District convened a meeting at Tea-workers Central M.E. School, Longsoal, Barhapjan on Sunday with Pradip Moran, Chief Convenor, All Assam Provincialized M.E. School Teachers' (Tutor) Association in the chair to appeal to Government to reconsider their case.

They were not given appointment because they submitted Class Seven pass certificate as their educational qualification. However, no such qualification was specified previously for such jobs, the deprived teachers informed. In the meeting, the local MLAs were appealed to help them out in provincialization of their posts. They also appealed to the All Assam Provincialized M.E. School Teachers' (Tutor) Association to take an active role to help them solve the problem.

The meeting was also attended by All Assam Provincialised ME School Teachers' (Tutor) Association, Dibrugarh District President Manoj Saikia and Assistant Secretary of Tinsukia District of the Association Pankaj Chakraborty and Vice President of Sadiya Block Committee Subhash Deori. The State Government gave appointment to a section of such teachers as 'tutors' under the Provincialisation Act of 2017 on February 5, 2021 and also appointed partially the fourth grade employees of such institutions in the aforesaid Niyog Mela.
