'All police stations in Darrang to be headed by Inspector as Officer in-charge'

MANGALDAI: With the recent decision of the State government to upgrade 21 Police Stations in the State including 3 Police Stations of Darrang district to be headed by an Inspector as the Officer in Charge in place of Sub Inspectors, Darrang district is going to be the only district in the state to have all the Police Stations with an Inspector as the Officer in Charge.

The Home (A) department of Assam government vide a notification no.A/31/2022-Home (A) and P- Home & Political dated December 5, has upgraded 21 posts of Sub Inspector Officer in Charge to that of Inspector Officer in Charge in the Police Stations with the intention of affective policing in Police Station jurisdiction, crime detection and prevention, maintenance of law & order situation in addition to the delivery of citizen centric services. As per this notification Police Stations at Kharupetia, Shyampur and Dhula in Darrang district will be headed by an Inspector of Police as the Officer in Charge. Mention may be made that Kharupetia Police Outpost under Dalgaon Police Station was created in 1962 and was upgraded as Police Station in 2009.

The other upgraded Police Stations of the State are Hajo and Choygaon Police Stations in Kamrup district, Ghograpar, Belsor and Tihu Police Stations in Nalbari district, Jogighopa Police Station in Bangaigaon district, Chariduar Police Station in Sonitpur district, Batadraba Police Station in Nagaon district, Dholai and Annapura River Police Station in Cachar district, Lahorighat, Moirabari and Mayong Police Station in Morigaon district, Garamur Police Station in Majuli district, Morajhar and Doboka Police Station in Hojai district, Lala Police Station in Hailakandi district and Mankachar Police Station in South Salmara district.

Meanwhile, the people of Darrang district have demanded the State government for upgrade of Burha Police Outpost as a Police Station, creation of Police outposts at Kuruwa under Sipajhar Police Station and in Outala under Mangaldai Police Station.
