KHERONI: Grave accusations have emerged against Gobin Johori, Headmaster of Majiahadi English ME School, West Karbi Anglong district (UDISE Code: 18331007304), for alleged monopolistic practices and irregularities in the school’s operations. The allegations, widely reported on Friday across multiple media outlets, have ignited public outrage, prompting demands from local residents for a detailed investigation and immediate intervention by the authority of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC).
Sukulal Daudunglangtha, the former and founding president of the School Management Committee (SMC), accused Johori of arbitrarily restructuring the SMC without prior consultation or consent. Daudunglangtha stated that he did not authorize any resolutions during his tenure, yet Johori allegedly appointed all teaching and non-teaching staff at his own discretion. According to the Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE) database, the school employed seven teaching and one non-teaching staff for the 2024-25 academic session, but the legitimacy of these appointments is now under intense scrutiny.
Adding to the controversy, stark discrepancies have surfaced regarding student enrolment and attendance. Headmaster Johori claims the school has 15-20 enrolled students, but both Daudunglangtha and the Sarkari Gaon Burha (SGB) of Majiahadi village report physical attendance ranging from zero to three students. This significant inconsistency has fuelled suspicions of mismanagement and potential misuse of funds allocated for the school’s operations.
The school’s infrastructure has also come under fire. Despite Johori’s claims of possessing three bighas of land, the institution operates from a temporary structure, raising concerns about misrepresented land documents used to secure UDISE registration and KAAC facilities. Local residents have further highlighted issues of financial mismanagement and irregular staff appointments, deepening distrust in the school’s administration.
The community has urged a thorough investigation by relevant authorities and KAAC’s involvement to address these serious allegations. As tensions rise, stakeholders await decisive action to restore transparency and accountability at Majiahadi English ME School.
