JAGIROAD: Alleged encroachment along the irrigation canal land at Jagiroad and its surroundings has caused deep resentment among the farmers of the locality.

The irrigation canal 'Project Mainajan' was implemented 20-25 years ago for the benefit of nearby crop growers. The canal was dug from River Kopili at Hatiamukh in the district of Morigaon to Khetri in the district of Kamrup. But following non-functioning of the canal since the last couple of years, about 70 per cent area of the canal has been allegedly encroached by some nearby people. The conscious section of society has urged the State Government to free the canal area from alleged encroachment and to make the canal functional.
