DIBRUGARH: Dr Gayatri Gogoi, Associate Professor of AMCH and Adjunct Researcher to ICMR North East, was honoured with Blackbuck Pioneer Researcher Award 2025 for her path breaking contributions to cancer research. Gogoi, a well-known doctor and a researcher from Assam, has been dedicatedly contributing towards the pursuit of knowledge and education in the North East.
The award was conferred in a research summit organized by Medical Dialogue, the largest medical news group, and National Medical Forum at Delhi on August 10 in the presence of Dr Abhijat Sheth, Chairperson of National Medical Commission, and Prof Ashok Puranik, Executive Director AIIMS Guwahati.
The jury panel for the selection of awards consisted of former Director General of ICMR, Dean of Maulana Azad Medical College, HOD Cardiology of PGI Chandigarh, and top doctors from other parts of India.
Dr Gogoi has received many national awards not only for her excellence in research and academics but also for her numerous contributions to supporting cancer-affected patients and families including one highly-respected international award for excellence in cancer care at North Carolina, USA. Dr Gogoi made significant contributions through her medical text books, over 50 research publications in peer-reviewed journals, and book chapters. She is a member of top global bodies like American Association for Cancer Research, International Fellow of College of American Pathologist, Chairperson of Genomic Consortium of North East India, etc.
She and her team completed 8 projects, with 5 ongoing projects from IISC Bangalore, AIIMS Delhi, IIT Guwahati, Tezpur Central University, and ICMR North East.
As an honorary member of Pratishruti Cancer and Palliative Trust, she designed many community-oriented projects which are running successfully.
She was the only doctor from North East India to receive the Pioneer Medical Researcher Award in the platform along with doctors and scientists of AIIMS Delhi, ICMR, Apollo Hospitals, Medanta, etc.
Dr Abhijat Sheth, Chairperson of National Medical Commission, Harsh Malhotra, Union MoS Corporate Affairs and Road Transport, were present during the programme.
The aim of this summit was to create better research ecosystems so India does not remain just a consumer but also becomes an innovator of medical devices and kits for the whole world.
