GUWAHATI: Dr. Sanjib Kakoti who is the Principal of Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) was airlifted from Guwahati from Dibrugarh in an air ambulance after his health condition deteriorated after he tested positive with Covid-19.

Recently Dr. Kakoti tested Covid-19 positive and was undergoing treatment at the Super Speciality Block of the AMCH for the last few days.

Sources from the hospital said that Dr. Kakoti was airlifted in an air ambulance after his health condition deteriorated.

A team of senior doctors was monitoring his health condition in the AMCH.

The hospital source said that he was supposed to be shifted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi but due to his deteriorated health condition, he was immediately shifted to Guwahati.

State agriculture minister Atul Bora visited the AMCH at Dibrugarh on Friday to enquire about the health condition of Dr Kakoti.

Earlier, Experts in India have claimed that the Covid-19 will start endemic in the county in the next six months as a new variant can't bring a third wave alone. Sujeet Singh, the Director of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said that the covid pandemic has challenged most of their predictions but in the next six months it will start endemic in the county. He said that the virus of the diseases will be present among people which can be handle easily like flu.

"If the mortality and morbidity is under control, then we can manage the disease," he said, adding that Kerala, which had a large "susceptible pool" or people vulnerable to Covid, is also emerging from the raging crisis it was battling a few weeks ago. Dr Singh said that vaccination is the protection against the Covid.
