'AMPHAN' effect: Rising water level of rivers worries villagers in Baksa

BAKSA: After cyclone "Amphan" hitting parts of the State, riverine villagers of greater Tamulpur area are spending sleepless nights as the water level of various rivers flowing from the foothills of Bhutan is increasing due to the continuous rains in the last three days.

Earlier, many families of Sahpur, Ganeshpur, Kalcheni, Guwabari, Hastinapur, Sidhinathpur, Ghilajhar, Bhalukmari, Baraliyapar, Baltipar villages became homeless due to erosion by Puthimari, Balti, Baraliya, Matanga, Kala Nodi, Darranga, Pagladiya rivers. As the water level of these rivers are increasing due to the continuous rains, fear of losing houses and properties has gripped the villagers.

It is to be mentioned here that on many past occasions, people and animals were swept away by flood waters of these rivers. So people of these villages have demanded that the government takes necessary action to protect the villages from erosion.
