ORANG: Continuing its legacy of celebrating the birth anniversary of Srimanta Sankardeva with cultural zeal, the renowned local drama troupe Amuthi Deka Natya Dal held the Muhurat (auspicious launching ceremony) of its latest social drama, ‘Mahabharatar Xekhot’ (At the End of the Mahabharata), on the night of August 3 at 8:40 pm. The event began with a traditional coconut-breaking ritual, followed by formal inauguration by Dr Nilut Swargiary, Executive Member of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

While addressing the gathering, Dr Swargiary remarked, “The enduring presence of such a long-standing drama group in a place like Udalguri is a testament to the district’s rich theatrical environment. Today, through mobile theatre, many artistes and technicians are earning their livelihood, which is a positive sign for our society.” He also highlighted the ongoing developmental progress within BTR.

The inaugural session was presided over by Kanak Das, Principal of Sankardev Shishu Vidya Niketan. Lighting the ceremonial lamp, Officer-in-Charge of Udalguri police station, Manojjal Gogoi, shared his thoughts on the significance of Amuthi Deka Natya Dal, a cultural institution established in 1962. “It’s a matter of great pride that this group has preserved and nurtured theatrical art for decades, contributing immensely to the development of local talent and the cultural fabric of our region,” he said. Expressing his admiration, Gogoi also conveyed his interest in associating with the group.

The event also featured a powerful dialogue presentation from ‘Mahabharatar Xekhot’ by actor and advisor Dhananjay Das.
