NAGAON: Anandaram Dhekial Phukon College, a leading institution of higher education in the small town, ceremonially presented the 'Anandaram Dhekial Phukon Award-2022' to noted Assamese litterateur Yase Dorje Thongsi on Saturday here at a function held on the occasion of the 63rd college foundation day at the college auditorium.
The litterateur received the prestigious award from the State Education Minister Ranoj Pegu. The award is given to one noted Assamese litterateur or prominent individual who dedicated his or her every effort for development of Assamese litterateur as well as language, every year since 2017.
Receiving the award, Yase Dorje Thongsi said if the literature dies, the language will automatically die. Literature is being created even in digital format nowadays and hence the importances of literature has not decreased, rather it is increasing, Thongsi added. He said that he had no objection to be the president of Axam Xahitya Xabha if the people of Assam would want.
Reacting to the ongoing debate on medium, the noted litterateur said that the government would never go against the spirit of its people or the nation. If the people of the land object to any initiative of government, the government should rethink its initiative at least once, Thongsi added.
While addressing the gathering at the award presentation ceremony, the Education Minister Dr Pegu said that over 4826 educational institutions across the State would get Rs 25,000 each as a grant for achieving grade A in Gunotsav.
Besides, a total of 1000 high schools in the State are decided to be promoted to higher secondary schools. Among these 1000 schools, the government has already promoted 215 schools to higher secondary schools and the other 885 high schools will be promoted soon, the minister added. Local MLA Rupak Sarma, the teachers as well as students of the college and other dignitaries of the small town were present in the award presentation ceremony.
