LAKHIMPUR: Hundreds of Anganwadi workers and assistants staged massive protest in North Lakhimpur town on Thursday demanding the Government of Assam to take steps to resolve their various issues.
In this connection, the Anganwadi workers and the assistants of the district assembled at the Tyag Kshetra of North Lakhimpur town under the banner of the Lakhimpur district unit of Assam State Anganwadi Workers-Assistants' Union and held a protest meeting there. Then the members of the organization, led by president Premada Mudoi and secretary Amiya Saikia Baruah took out a protest rally covering the North Lakhimpur town and demonstrated in front of the District Social Welfare Office.
By initiating the agitational programme, the organization submitted a memorandum to the Director of the Social Welfare Department through the District Social Welfare Officer of Lakhimpur. Through the memorandum, the organization demanded the government to release ex-gratia to the retired Anganwadi workers and assistants at the earliest, to stop amalgamation of the Anganwadi centres, to upgrade all Anganwadi centres as model Anganwadi centre, to develop the infrastructure of all the Anganwadi centres, to stop engaging Anganwadi workers and assistants to make them visit households with the health care workers for survey related activities. The protesters shouted various slogans in support of their demands during the demonstration.
