Dibrugarh: The annual zakaat distribution event of the Dibrugarh Zakaat and Imdaad Foundation (DZIF) was held on Sunday With an aim to help the needy and impoverished people of the section, the DZIF, which was founded in the year 2010 under the presidentship of former chairman of Assam State Electricity Board, Riazul Hussain, invited all the beneficiaries of zakaat for the year 2018 to the event. Speaking at the event, Associate Professor of Assam Medical College and Hospital, Sajid Ahmed, who presided over the event, threw light on the various kinds of people who had been helped by the foundation. He added that help was not just confined to an offering of cash, but also funding for one’s education.
Former Professor of Dibrugarh University, Dr. Adil-ul-Yasin, who graced the occasion as its chief guest, spoke at length on the meaning and significance of zakaat. He, at the same time, hailed DZIF for its altruistic endeavors towards ensuring proper utilization of the zakaat fund. The platform was also used to felicitate one of the founding members of DZIF and a former social worker, Saifuddin Ahmed, who is an octogenarian. A former noted teacher of Bengali High School, Parimal Mukherjee was all praise for the Islamic practice of zakaat, and the way that ritual had helped many a people to come out of poverty and deprivation. He also spoke highly of DZIF, which was helping people across all faith.
