Anti-CAA agitation based on logic and conscience, not on emotion: Lurinjyoti Gogoi

LAKHIMPUR: “The anti-CAA agitation in Assam is based on strong logic and conscience, not only on emotion or sentiment. If it is not, why are the Chief Minister and the BJP-governments unable to reject the arguments which we have already raised against CAA? We have once again challenged the Chief Minister to cross our arguments against the community destructive Act,” said AASU general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi in Dhemaji on Thursday.

He gave this challenge to the Chief Minister while participating in the stir in Dhemaji Kachari Maidan initiated by All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and 30 ethnic organizations against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

Notably, the Chief Minister, while taking part in the peace rally organized by BJP in Dhemaji on Wednesday, obliquely criticized the agitating organizations which were leading the anti-CAA agitation in the State by saying that the agitation initiated by them against CAA was based on emotion only, not logic. As a reply to the Chief Minister’s criticism, the AASU general secretary flayed him with the challenge on Thursday in the same district.

“He (Sarbananda Sonowal) has greed for the Chief Minister’s chair. So he has now appeared as the protector of illegal migrants from Bangladesh favouring the CAA and has forgotten his past career as AASU president and the conditions of the Assam Accord which was the Bible for him then. Had this not been so, he would have opposed the Act like his counterparts of the other north-eastern States who have fought against the CAA to safeguard their native communities,” said the AASU general secretary.

He asserted that the anti-Assamese and divisive forces which were trying to disrupt the unity and integration of the State by hatching a conspiracy to destroy the Aair Mukhar Maat (mother language) and Aair Mukhar Bhat (livelihood), would be challenged with the strength of the people of the State.
